Job Title: Special Education Coordinator
Job Summary:
A special education coordinator works under the supervision of a special education teacher to provide additional support and assistance to students with disabilities or special needs in educational settings. They help implement individualized education plans (IEPs), facilitate student learning, and promote the inclusion and success of students with diverse learning needs.
Key Responsibilities:

Student Support: Assist students with disabilities in accessing the curriculum, completing assignments, and developing academic skills. Provide one-on-one or small group instruction, reinforcement activities, and accommodations as outlined in students' IEPs.

Behavioral Support: Implement behavior management strategies to support students with challenging behaviors. Reinforce positive behaviors, teach self-regulation techniques, and de-escalate situations as needed to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.

Classroom Assistance: Assist special education teachers in preparing instructional materials, setting up learning activities, and organizing classroom materials and equipment. Collaborate with teachers to adapt curriculum materials and modify teaching methods to meet students' individual learning needs.

Communication and Collaboration: Communicate regularly with special education teachers, general education teachers, and other school staff to coordinate support services and monitor students' progress. Participate in team meetings, parent conferences, and IEP meetings to provide input on students' needs and progress.

Supervision and Safety: Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, and other school-related activities to ensure their safety and well-being. Follow established protocols and procedures for emergency situations, including evacuations and lockdowns.
Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or higher preferred.

Experience working with individuals with disabilities or special needs in an educational or related setting.

Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, teachers, and other school staff.

Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support the academic and social-emotional growth of students with disabilities.
Additional Requirements:

Depending on the specific role and responsibilities, additional certifications or training in areas such as CPR, first aid, crisis intervention, or assistive technology may be required or preferred.

Some positions may require the ability to lift and maneuver students with physical disabilities or mobility challenges.

Job Title: Education Specialist
Description
Education Specialists work to enrich each student’s experience in class and help effectively teach age-appropriate curriculum to include social-emotional learning. Their role is to collaborate with Teachers and other staff and oversee students so that they get more hands-on attention and personalized help with assignments. Education Specialists help take attendance, collect homework and assign tasks to students. While the Teacher guides the group, Education Specialists walk around the school and engage in classrooms to check for understanding and explain concepts to students who are having trouble. Education Specialists familiarize themselves with each classroom operation as well as each student so that if it is necessary for a teacher to be absent, they are able to continue the daily schedule that the students come to expect and rely upon. They collaborate with the Teacher to create a plan for achieving academic and social benchmarks.
Education Specialists strive to form interpersonal relationships with each student to help them feel more motivated about classroom achievement. They communicate with Teachers and staff about each student’s learning needs and make recommendations about how to better accommodate or support them in the classroom and at home.
