Math Educator

Position Overview: 

As a Math Educator at our independent special education school, you will play a pivotal role in providing engaging and tailored math education to students with diverse learning needs. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement comprehensive math curricula that accommodates individualized learning styles, needs and ability, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development: Design and adapt science curricula to meet the unique needs and abilities of students with special educational requirements, ensuring alignment with state standards and educational goals.

  • Differentiated Instruction: Employ a variety of instructional strategies and techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles, abilities, and sensory needs, including visual aids, hands-on experiments, and adaptive technology, and more.

  • Individualized Learning Plans(IEP): Collaborate with special educator, special education coordinator, colleagues, therapists, and other professionals to develop and implement IEPs tailored to each student's strengths, challenges, and goals.

  • Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess student progress using a variety of assessment tools and techniques.

  • Classroom Management: Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes active engagement, mutual respect, and social-emotional development.

  • Collaboration and Professional Development: Collaborate with colleagues to integrate science education with other subject areas and interdisciplinary themes, participate in professional development activities to stay current on best practices in special education and science education, and contribute to the school community.

  • Communication and Family Engagement: Maintain open and proactive communication with students, families, and caregivers regarding student progress, goals, and strategies for support, and involve families in their child's science education through regular updates, workshops, and events.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Special Education, Math Education, or a related field, or significant knowledge and experience in the content area. 

  • Experience working with students with diverse learning needs, including but not limited to autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, learning disabilities, and intellectual disabilities.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Job Summary:

    The Special Education Program Coordinator serves in a dual leadership role as both the Special Educator and Program Coordinator. In this capacity, the Coordinator is responsible for supporting the design, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and other individualized supports for students with disabilities or specialized learning needs.

    The Coordinator provides guidance, oversight, and professional support to instructional staff, while also assisting in managing the program’s day-to-day operations and student-related needs. This role involves fostering a collaborative environment and ensuring that staff have the resources and direction necessary to effectively support students.

    Working closely with students, families, educators, and other professionals, the Special Education Program Coordinator helps ensure that each student receives appropriate services, accommodations, and interventions to support their educational progress. The Coordinator also promotes a supportive and structured environment where both students and staff are positioned for success.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify students’ academic strengths, learning needs, and social-emotional or behavioral profiles, utilizing formal and informal tools to guide individualized programming.
       

    • Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and individualized learning plans in collaboration with sending school districts, families, and multidisciplinary team members.
       

    • Provide specialized and differentiated instruction to students with complex learning, behavioral, and social-emotional needs by adapting curriculum materials, modifying instructional strategies, and implementing individualized academic interventions.
       

    • Implement trauma-informed and therapeutic educational practices to support students who may present with behavioral challenges, emotional regulation needs, or barriers to learning.
       

    • Develop, implement, and monitor behavior support plans and social-emotional learning strategies, including teaching self-regulation, coping skills, and positive peer interaction.
       

    • Collaborate with the Program Director to review student progress, evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, and adjust academic or behavioral support plans to ensure student growth and program success.
       

    • Maintain consistent communication with the Director regarding student progress, behavioral concerns, intervention outcomes, and program needs.
       

    • Serve as a liaison between families, tutors, instructional staff, and sending school districts to ensure coordinated services, consistent communication, and appropriate support for students enrolled in the therapeutic program.
       

    • Participate in and support IEP meetings and team meetings, contributing relevant information regarding student progress, behavioral supports, and program recommendations.
       

    • Oversee the scheduling and coordination of educational services for students requiring individualized instruction, academic intervention, enrichment opportunities, or therapeutic educational support.
       

    • Maintain accurate documentation of student schedules (past and present), including tutor assignments, service hours, and any scheduling modifications required to support student success.
       

    • Maintain documentation of meetings, consultations, and formal engagement with school districts, tutors, and other service providers related to LunaWay programming and services.
       

    • Maintain confidential student records and track academic goals, behavioral interventions, accommodations, and outcomes through internal systems. Ensure appropriate access for the Supervisor, Human Resources, and Student Relations Coordinator.
       

    • Help to maintain up-to-date student intake tracking system, including:
       

      • Student initials
         

      • School district
         

      • Referring LEA
         

      • Date of referral
         

      • Type of service requested or pending
         

      • Tour or placement decisions
         

    • Maintain open communication with Human Resources and the Student Relations Coordinator to ensure intake documentation and student records remain accurate and current.
       

    • Provide ongoing coaching, training, and mentorship to Educators and instructional staff, promoting best practices in differentiated instruction, behavioral support, and therapeutic classroom strategies.
       

    • Support staff in implementing consistent behavioral expectations, de-escalation strategies, and trauma-informed approaches when working with students experiencing emotional or behavioral dysregulation.
       

    • Contribute to the development of instructional resources, behavioral supports, and curriculum modifications designed to meet the needs of students in a therapeutic learning environment.
       

    • Document staff-related matters in a shared location with Human Resources and the Company Owner/Director, including:
       

      • Disciplinary concerns and recommendations for next steps
         

      • Staff growth opportunities and professional development needs
         

      • Performance reviews and compensation recommendations in collaboration with supervisors
         

    • Ensure compliance with special education regulations, accommodation requirements, and district partnership agreements relevant to the services provided within the therapeutic school.
       

    • Maintain current knowledge of special education law, trauma-informed educational practices, and evidence-based behavioral interventions through ongoing professional development.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.

    • State certification or Vermont licensure as a special education teacher.

    • Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.

    • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

    • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help students with disabilities succeed.

    • Management experience.

  • Job Summary:

    BRIGHTality is seeking a Classroom Educator with a strong background in science education and the ability to integrate learning across content areas. Under general supervision, the Classroom Educator delivers high-quality instruction and academic support to students enrolled in an alternative education setting.

    This role includes providing individualized and small-group instruction, implementing personalized education and behavior plans, and applying evidence-based instructional and behavioral strategies to promote student growth and success. The Classroom Educator fosters a structured yet flexible learning environment that supports diverse academic and social-emotional needs.

    Key Responsibilities

    Instruction & Academic Support

    • Develop class-specific syllabi and lesson plans aligned with unit proficiencies.

    • Plan and deliver daily instructional activities tailored to student needs.

    • Provide small-group and individualized instruction.

    • Administer assessments to identify academic strengths and needs.

    • Assist in developing and implementing Individual Education Service Plans (IEPs).

    • Integrate behavioral supports and alternative programming into lessons.

    • Monitor and document student progress, including grades and anecdotal records.

    • Maintain accurate daily attendance records.

    Collaboration & Communication

    • Collaborate with counselors, teachers, administrators, parents, and related service providers.
